When I first signed up for Game Fly the service was great. I had a turn around time of about four days. The post office would detect the games that I sent from home and Game Fly would send me another game before they received the game. As time went on, it seemed that the post office was no longer detecting these games, and the turnaround time changed to about nine days. This long turn around time made me quit the service. Then, a funny thing happened. All of a sudden, for the first time, they did not receive the games I had sent. Surprise Surprise. After two weeks they said they would charge me for the games unless I resubscribed. I finally got someone on the phone and called them on. What a con game these guys got going. By Zombie from Austin

Gamefly is great. I couldn't be more pleased. We have an Xbox 360 and I suspect Santa is bringing a PS3 this year. With all the new game releases coming over the next few months having a gamefly account is the only way I'll be able to get my hands on everything without going broke. I've tried a few of the other game rental services in the past and have not been terribly impressed with selection or availability. Not to mention turnaround. Gamefly has everything, always has the first word on new releases and release dates and is the only one that seems to be on top their game (pun intended). I actually ended up buying gamefly gift certificates for a couple of friends of mine for Christmas this year. When you consider that a three month gamefly subscription costs roughly what one new game would the benefit of the service is clear. Plus, if you're giving game gifts for the holidays you don't have to try and figure out what to buy. I wouldn't give the gift if I didn't think the service was great. Gamefly is awesome. Highly recommended. By Gman from New Jersey

I've had a few shipping delays but overall they're great. I started using them for PSP rentals which worked out great since a lot of PSP games aren't worth buying and I could try them out before I decided if I wanted to buy them.
I just recently bought an xbox 360 and with two consoles it's totally worth it. Especially for the discounts on games you get when you do the whole keep it thing. You gotta give em a chance. There have been shipping issues but nothing that's going to take away from the fact that I'm playing everything I want to play without forking over huge amounts of money buying games.
As has been pointed out the second center sped things up and there's talk of more on the way so it's only going to improve. You gotta look at it as a new business model that's working out the kinks.
I agree with others as well that video games are not DVDs. Despite the comparisons, this is not netflix. Games cost more and gamers are more demanding. But if you give it a chance you'll end up pleased. Totally cool for buying games for people at Xmas too. They're way cheaper than buying them new and they send you all the packaging and manuals when you buy games from them so you can wrap it up and it totally looks brand new. Give them a chance and looks at the total package. If you do you'll see that you end up saving tons of cash and you get to play everything! By Zac from Richmond, VA

In two months of having this service I rented 4 games. Two of them took two weeks to arrive and when they did arrive one of them was damaged. The other two never arrived, after placing a complaint I received an email stating they had been shipped and should arrive soon. Two weeks later I went to cancel the service, and received an email stating that the games had been shipped (again) when they arrived I canceled the service and returned the games. I received a confirmation email of delivery within two days of shipping each game back to them, so I believe that all the shipping problems were with Gamefly getting the games out of their office, and not with the post office. The shipping takes FOREVER... The website is good and selection is good, but i am close to canceling because of the length of time it takes for a game to return and come back.. Especially for the $26 a month. By chris j from orlando

Overall I think they work fine. The trick to getting games you want is simply a matter of manipulating your queue. If you have 50 games in your queue and you're really wanting four or five of them before any of the others then trim the fat and only have your most desired games in there. Guaranteed you'll get them. What most people don't seem to understand about game availability is that it changes. Sometimes in a matter of hours. I mean this is a rental service with hundreds of games coming in and out every day. If your game shows low availability the mailman might not have come yet. Check back in an hour and see if it's changed. I've had several games shipped that showed low availability one day only to be shipped out the next. In some cases low availability games have gone out the very same day I've put them in my queue. Not often but it has happened. It's just a matter of knowing how to use the system.
Shipping times were slower before the east coast distribution center opened up but now I get my games as quickly as I get my movies from Netflix (about 2 days) which is nothing to complain about. I'm in New York and it used to take about five days between here and California so this is a major improvement.
The reality of the situation is that this is a totally different animal from Netflix. DVDs don't get the hype and build that games do. You don't see people camping out in front of Best Buy to buy their copy of The Ring or Saw II the day it's released. Demand is different (not to mention cost) and sometimes you're just going to have to wait. I'm all for instant gratification but I get that I'm going to have to be patient when I want something that half the damn world wants too. Still, I've never waited more than a full week for a high demand game so all things considered, I'm thinking this system works pretty good. I'm also not spending tons of cash on new releases only to find out half of them are mediocre either. That definitely doesn't suck.
Bottom line, if you're smart about how you use your membership it's going to rock and you're going to be stoked on it. By Davis from New York, NY

Gamefly sucks. I rented a quite a few games from them and returned them all within a week of receiving them. In total, Gamefly claimed I did not "return" 5 games to them. They were "lost in the mail". I suspect somebody at Gamefly was stealing them before they were "received". Gamefly suggested asking the USPS to put a trace on the "missing" games. The USPS said ask Gamefly. I have mailed NetFlix and BlockBuster dvd's from the same secured mailbox and nothing was every "missing" or "lost".

They used to be good, but over the last few months (currently oct 2007), their availability has been abysmal. Today, I have 17 games in my queue, and only ONE is available. Only about half of these are even hot titles.
I have only gotten 1 game in my top 8-9 of my queue (Wii/PS3/new PS2) in two months. By pw from san diego

We had a subscription to Gamefly, but decided to cancel due to moving to a different state. We tried emailing since there is no Customer Service number listed. We did not receive a reply until we had sent 3 more emails. We had to put in CAPS.."WE WANT TO TALK ON THE PHONE" in the subject line. Finally, we were able to get a live voice ONLY after we had already been billed the next month's shipment. By Chris Haddox from Florence, KY

Our family has used Gamefly for about a year now and we love them, notwithstanding a few moles and blemishes. We are fortunate to live close to the new PA distribution center which in our experience has reduced delivery time by about a day or so on average.
We have three consoles in the house so renting makes a big difference in keeping game expenses down while at the same time keeping the consoles filled. We have a three game plan and with the games we keep, everyone is happy with the supply. Really there is no possible way we could afford the constant stream of new games without renting.
While other reviews have pointed out issues similar to ones i've had with GameFly in the past, I've noted steady and concerted improvement. I highly doubt GameFly would invest in a new east coast distribution center if they weren't bent on providing the best service possible.
Plus, their site is by and far the best out there, with so many nifty and user-friendly features, I'm amazed every time I use it. I spent a number of years in the web design business and know that this type of site requires huge investments of time and money.
Bottom line (as far as I can tell) GameFly is serious and built to serve serious gamers. I've played video games since I was a teenager and my kids have played since just after diapers. My wife is even getting into it now that we have a wii. We play games like others watch television. Like netflix, gameFly isn't going to work for everybody. Nothing does. But it seems to work for a lot of gamers, since they keep expanding and growing. Note: they recently upped their games in stock from 4000+ to 5000+. Or should I say, I recently upped the games I have at my finger tips to 5000+ By Richard from Akron, OH

There was a time when Gamefly was the lone bastion of hope for those of us who think the gaming industry is over-charging us. It sounded like such an awesome idea, my brother and I cackled with glee as we signed up for our free trial. This was back when they only had the single West Coast shipping depot, mind you.
Strangely enough, our free trial was beautiful. We were receiving our games at a surprising speed, considering we are in DC.
Then, the honey moon was abruptly over. As was the trial.
Games would manage, generally, to creep in at about six day waiting periods. Constantly, they would be over seven days late. We'd complain, they'd priority ship us a game. They would, in their infinite arrogance, blame the postal service.
I'm positive I'm not the only former customer to get this line. Here's the question, boys and girls: How many times has the postal service lost your stuff, outside of Gamefly? You would think it was one big Laurel and Hardy act at your local Post Office, the way Gamefly goes on.
We hear about the new shipping depot, some months ago, a scant few hundred miles from us (as opposed to three thousand). Of course, despite having a membership years prior, we're ineligible for another free trial.
Now, bear in mind that I ship with the United States Postal Service constantly. I love sending letters and packages to my friends, as does my wife. I can send a letter to someone on one of those tiny, bridgeless islands off the coast of Massachusetts and they'll generally get it in two days. Three days MAX.
Gamefly, luring us back with their promise of faster shipping, fails us even harder.
Several "lost" items. Countless late arrivals. This, from Pittsburgh to DC? And, wonder of wonders, Gamefly's support people are blaming the postal service.
Now hear this. I'd had a huge subscription to Netflix for years. I canceled and went with Blockbuster Total Access, for their free, in-store rentals, for four movies at a time. To date, and maybe I'm just lucky, but neither video service has lost a single video. In fact, I have never lost anything in the mail.
I don't want to sound like the severely jilted customer, but I no longer blame this on incompetence, as I might've, at one point. I genuinely believe Gamefly to be peopled by shysters. Think about it. Think about the money you'd stand to lose, shipping things out as quickly as they do, having to stock all those games. If you take a nice, lazy approach, you only actually have to ship a customer maybe four or five games a month. And you've got this wonderful scapegoat in the USPS.
"You didn't get your game AGAIN? Oh those mailmen!"
Easy-peasy. They're padding the time with their lame excuses and padding their bill.
Important to note! As far as I can tell, Gamefly is the ONLY mailer service for any sort of media that doesn't use postal tracking. Netflix and others know you've shipped your items as SOON AS YOU'VE SHIPPED THEM. Gamefly actually has to physically receive your returns.
In summation: Don't use Gamefly. Don't fall for their BS, because I promise you this: that's all they've got. They've made a successful business off of jerking you around. You think they make their money off the extremely satisfied gentlemen living twenty miles from their shipping department? No. They're making their healthy profits from the poor shmoe living thousands of miles away.
Interesting side-note: When I factor in what should have been happening and line it up alongside what's happening, the bottom line is I received half the number of games I should have. Ask yourself if more waiting than playing is worth twenty bucks a month.
Hint: No. It isn't. By Logan from DC

yea game fly was good in the beginning took 4 days to turnaround 3 days and its here and i live in illinois and the shipping depot was in L.A then it started to become a mess buying games took forever and they would always email me and say they never got my game that i sent back or i never got the game i wanted and you almost have to rent old games unless you put the game in your shipping order ahead of time you are never gonna be able to rent that for awhile.also game fly says like 9 dollars a month and then they slowly start adding like 8 bucks a month to that so its 16 bucks a month for one game at a time !!! dont go gamefly unless you live in L.A you arent gonna get you game that quick good selection not enough copys of games in stock switching to gameznflix 2 games and or movie for 13.99 By Denny from Glen Ellyn Illinois

I love gaming, but dosn't it seem like some new better game is always coming out. i can't afford to spend 70 dollars on ONE game. espesially when i know sometime after the 30th time i beat it, i'll never touch it again. to make matters worst, i take the stupid game to ebgames or gamestop and my trade is worth 7 dollars. the copy on there shelves cost $39.99 but the same game in my hands is worth $7. its NOT SMART if you really think about it. look at your game collection, its worth 10% what you paid!!!! and you probably only play 10% of your games. that's where renting becomes an option. "i'll just run to blockbuster and rent it" another rip off. they charge you 7 bucks to keep the game for a week, thats just enough time to get used to the controls and almost beat a game. BLOCKBUSTER IS A TEASE. gamefly gives you the best possible solution. you pay like $12 a month (1 game at blockbuster for 30 days would be like $30!!!) gamefly has a bigger selection than your local gamestop or ebgames has in stock. the games even come to your door. how easy can it get, seriously. if you rent on average one game a month, gamefly is just a better deal. honestly, do the math.
try it. do you think that thousands of customers would be members if it was a rip off? just check the site out. By loaded357 from florida
