Other video game rental companies don't hold a candle to gamefly. There are no other viable online rental options and the gamefly is far more nimble and intelligent in fulfilling gamers needs than the brick and mortars.
Maybe I'm missing something in some of these neg reviews but Gamefly has so many more titles available than anyone else, they cover all consoles which few can claim.
With a two game plan you can play 3-6 games in a month depending on how long you keep each one and pay around $275 for the year. So that's like 40+ games or around $6 a game. Let me count the ways Gamefly has made my gaming life better.
1. convenience
I don't actually have to go to a store, I can manage it online like any civilized human being.
2. Selection
Any game for all consoles are there. I never could trust blockbuster for that, so going there was a major risk.
3. myriad perks
- free music downloads
- game trade in
- gamefly dollars
- discounts and free shipping on bought games
- keep it option
- the gameq
No one is perfect. But they're by far the best option. That's my take. By Sam from Northern California

I joined and was happy at first, but that changed. I returned my 2 games that I had rented. The next day I canceled because I did not need the service. They sent an email saying that the needed the games within 7 days. They received them within 7 days but I accidently sent a wrong disc in one of the sleeves. They contated me and I asked what to do. They said that they would send me my game and a sleeve for me send them theirs back. Then I got an email that they wanted to charge my account for not returning the game. I had not recieved my game or the sleeve yet and emailed back explaining what was going on and asked what else I was supposed to do. They said nothing and that the email was forwarded to customer service. I just got the sleeve sat in the mail. the following Monday I put it in the mail for them. The next day they charged me for the game. How I could have gotten it to them faster I am not sure. Not only did they charge me but they charged me a higher rate than what was offered while I had the service to buy the game for. So... they now have my game, their game, and my money but they don't see what the problem is. The company is way to disorganized to do business and if you value your money you sould not do business with gamefly. By Todd Lebedin from Hillsborough, NJ

Very good service. For someone who plays video game, I can tell you this is the best. When I bought games I spend so much money for one or two games that I like.
Now I play so much and only spent $20 every month. I think that is a really good deal since I play 2-3 games a month which is a lot less than $60 a game. Renting is the best way now for games, like movies with netflix.
If you only play a couple game a year, then maybe you would complain, but why are you buying a console for only one or two games. I have two consoles so that would be very expensive to buy for both.
Plus gamefly has many great things beside renting. Buy games at a deep discount, trade games, music download, gamefly bucks, rate games, read reviews, everything a gamer likes, except a forum. Maybe coming soon. By Andy from NE

Gamefly is ok, until you have a shipping problem. Then, they suck.
They have all this crap about reporting the problem to the postal inspector, but they don't do it. They never collect the information from you that they need to make the report. As far as I can tell, they sit on their hands.
But the best part is, they mark your account as "not in good standing" for 60 days WITHOUT TELLING YOU. The only way you find out is if you want to do something that requires your account to be in good standing.
Their policy clearly is "We assume all shipping problems are the fault of our customers, but we're not brave enough to tell them this." By ct4ul4u from Mill Valley, CA

I've been renting games from gamefly for over two years and here's what I've learned about the service and how to use it. First off, don't fill your queue up heavily. I keep my game queue populated with no more than 10 games at a time, more often less and always with games I'm eager to play. I also make a point of trying to get games into my queue pre-release and gamefly does a great job of adding games to their selection pre-release. If you do this you'll be first in line when they ship. If you've got 40 games in your queue a lot of them will be available before the new releases so get them out of there and put them in your queue when there's a lull in new releases. Manipulate your game queue often and regularly and you'll get everything you want.
Insofar as shipping is concerned, check with your post office about whether or not they scan mail in. Gamefly has a system in place with the postal service (fast return) where they are notified once the post office scans your game in. They will then ship the next game in your game queue before physically receiving the one you've mailed to them. But here's the catch, not all post offices scan in their mail so if yours doesn't you don't get the added benefit of this service. The solution to this problem is to try mailing your games back from a different location (your office maybe or a box at your grocery store?). The idea is to get your games scanned so talk to your post office and find out if they're doing this. If they aren't find one that does.
After two plus years with gamefly I have never had a game not show up - either to me or back to them although I've heard of theft so it makes sense that gamefly would need to take steps to protect themselves by limiting, or in some cases, canceling accounts where this seems to be a problem. I mean, these are video games, not DVDs and they're a highly sought after commodity. I've been fortunate and not had any issues to deal with on that end and have moved from one coast to the other in the past two years without incident. That said, my shipping times back and forth rarely ever go beyond two days and now that Gamefly has opened its third distribution center in Tampa, FL I suspect more and more people - particularly in the southeast - are going to see this kind of turn around too. I've read rumors of a fourth coming later in the year too so if those are true I think the choice is going to become obvious. You can't grow at that rate without doing something right.
All in all, it's really the only affordable option out there for serious gamers or families on a budget. Video games are expensive and gamefly is the best rental outfit out there and have consistently grown and expanded their business. I've played hundreds of games and spent a fraction of what I'd have spent buying them. It really is a great service and with a little effort you can totally make it work for you. I got a free months trial with gamefly and I was really excited there were several games no stores had that I wanted to play. Well it's been a month and I have ONLY GOTTEN 1 GAME. The customer service will blow you off when you contact them, and they are trying to charge me for a game that the shipped to the wrong address, the customer service rep was even the one who typed in the address. Over 6 months I never received 4 games very often when I sent a game back I would get #9 on my Q even though numbers 2-5 were available. Then when I complained about games being slow or not recieved after the 7 day shipping period they informed me that I lived in a "Questionable mailing zone" Funny how all my other mail arrives on time and the movies from Netflix are delivered on time and have never been "Lost" Then they cancel my account and return a portion of the monthly fee. How about the other part of the months that my games were missing? By Gameflyblewme from New York
