I've been renting games from gamefly for over two years and here's what I've learned about the service and how to use it. First off, don't fill your queue up heavily. I keep my game queue populated with no more than 10 games at a time, more often less and always with games I'm eager to play. I also make a point of trying to get games into my queue pre-release and gamefly does a great job of adding games to their selection pre-release. If you do this you'll be first in line when they ship. If you've got 40 games in your queue a lot of them will be available before the new releases so get them out of there and put them in your queue when there's a lull in new releases. Manipulate your game queue often and regularly and you'll get everything you want.
Insofar as shipping is concerned, check with your post office about whether or not they scan mail in. Gamefly has a system in place with the postal service (fast return) where they are notified once the post office scans your game in. They will then ship the next game in your game queue before physically receiving the one you've mailed to them. But here's the catch, not all post offices scan in their mail so if yours doesn't you don't get the added benefit of this service. The solution to this problem is to try mailing your games back from a different location (your office maybe or a box at your grocery store?). The idea is to get your games scanned so talk to your post office and find out if they're doing this. If they aren't find one that does.
After two plus years with gamefly I have never had a game not show up - either to me or back to them although I've heard of theft so it makes sense that gamefly would need to take steps to protect themselves by limiting, or in some cases, canceling accounts where this seems to be a problem. I mean, these are video games, not DVDs and they're a highly sought after commodity. I've been fortunate and not had any issues to deal with on that end and have moved from one coast to the other in the past two years without incident. That said, my shipping times back and forth rarely ever go beyond two days and now that Gamefly has opened its third distribution center in Tampa, FL I suspect more and more people - particularly in the southeast - are going to see this kind of turn around too. I've read rumors of a fourth coming later in the year too so if those are true I think the choice is going to become obvious. You can't grow at that rate without doing something right.
All in all, it's really the only affordable option out there for serious gamers or families on a budget. Video games are expensive and gamefly is the best rental outfit out there and have consistently grown and expanded their business. I've played hundreds of games and spent a fraction of what I'd have spent buying them. It really is a great service and with a little effort you can totally make it work for you. I got a free months trial with gamefly and I was really excited there were several games no stores had that I wanted to play. Well it's been a month and I have ONLY GOTTEN 1 GAME. The customer service will blow you off when you contact them, and they are trying to charge me for a game that the shipped to the wrong address, the customer service rep was even the one who typed in the address. Over 6 months I never received 4 games very often when I sent a game back I would get #9 on my Q even though numbers 2-5 were available. Then when I complained about games being slow or not recieved after the 7 day shipping period they informed me that I lived in a "Questionable mailing zone" Funny how all my other mail arrives on time and the movies from Netflix are delivered on time and have never been "Lost" Then they cancel my account and return a portion of the monthly fee. How about the other part of the months that my games were missing? By Gameflyblewme from New York

When I first signed up for Game Fly the service was great. I had a turn around time of about four days. The post office would detect the games that I sent from home and Game Fly would send me another game before they received the game. As time went on, it seemed that the post office was no longer detecting these games, and the turnaround time changed to about nine days. This long turn around time made me quit the service. Then, a funny thing happened. All of a sudden, for the first time, they did not receive the games I had sent. Surprise Surprise. After two weeks they said they would charge me for the games unless I resubscribed. I finally got someone on the phone and called them on. What a con game these guys got going. By Zombie from Austin

Gamefly is great. I couldn't be more pleased. We have an Xbox 360 and I suspect Santa is bringing a PS3 this year. With all the new game releases coming over the next few months having a gamefly account is the only way I'll be able to get my hands on everything without going broke. I've tried a few of the other game rental services in the past and have not been terribly impressed with selection or availability. Not to mention turnaround. Gamefly has everything, always has the first word on new releases and release dates and is the only one that seems to be on top their game (pun intended). I actually ended up buying gamefly gift certificates for a couple of friends of mine for Christmas this year. When you consider that a three month gamefly subscription costs roughly what one new game would the benefit of the service is clear. Plus, if you're giving game gifts for the holidays you don't have to try and figure out what to buy. I wouldn't give the gift if I didn't think the service was great. Gamefly is awesome. Highly recommended. By Gman from New Jersey

I've had a few shipping delays but overall they're great. I started using them for PSP rentals which worked out great since a lot of PSP games aren't worth buying and I could try them out before I decided if I wanted to buy them.
I just recently bought an xbox 360 and with two consoles it's totally worth it. Especially for the discounts on games you get when you do the whole keep it thing. You gotta give em a chance. There have been shipping issues but nothing that's going to take away from the fact that I'm playing everything I want to play without forking over huge amounts of money buying games.
As has been pointed out the second center sped things up and there's talk of more on the way so it's only going to improve. You gotta look at it as a new business model that's working out the kinks.
I agree with others as well that video games are not DVDs. Despite the comparisons, this is not netflix. Games cost more and gamers are more demanding. But if you give it a chance you'll end up pleased. Totally cool for buying games for people at Xmas too. They're way cheaper than buying them new and they send you all the packaging and manuals when you buy games from them so you can wrap it up and it totally looks brand new. Give them a chance and looks at the total package. If you do you'll see that you end up saving tons of cash and you get to play everything! By Zac from Richmond, VA

In two months of having this service I rented 4 games. Two of them took two weeks to arrive and when they did arrive one of them was damaged. The other two never arrived, after placing a complaint I received an email stating they had been shipped and should arrive soon. Two weeks later I went to cancel the service, and received an email stating that the games had been shipped (again) when they arrived I canceled the service and returned the games. I received a confirmation email of delivery within two days of shipping each game back to them, so I believe that all the shipping problems were with Gamefly getting the games out of their office, and not with the post office. The shipping takes FOREVER... The website is good and selection is good, but i am close to canceling because of the length of time it takes for a game to return and come back.. Especially for the $26 a month. By chris j from orlando
